Amtrak’s Reauthorization

In early March the U.S. House passed H.R. 479, the Passenger Rail Reform and Investment Act of 2015 (PRRIA 2015) by a 306 to 101 vote. The bill, passed in a true bipartisan fashion, authorizes about $1.4 billion over the next four fiscal years (starting in FY 2016), although actual funding will come through a separate appropriations process. For the Louisiana Congressional delegation, 5 out of 6 members voted for final passage of the bill. Scalise, Richmond, Boustany, Abraham, and Graves voted for PRRIA 2015 and Fleming voted against. LARP would like to thank its members for contacting their Member of Congress concerning the passage of this bill and encourage all to continue to contact their House Representative concerning Amtrak funding. The next step will be for the Senate to take up PRRIA 2015 Reauthorization and it is expected that a similar bill will pass the Senate (hopefully with higher authorized amounts).
